Pipili is a small town located near Bhubaneswar which is mainly famous for its handicraft and also the income of this town is mainly dependent on the business of the handicraft or you can also say now a day’s Pipili is the main hub for handicraft designer. The village Pipili is famous for its handicraft work or it is called applique work. The Pipili handicraft work owes its origin to Lord Jagannath culture during the 12th century. Earlier time applique umbrellas and canopies were prepared by Gajapati’s for the Jagannath Rathayatra.
Now a day’s handicraft is used in household decorative, festival products, wall designing. You can see the best applique work at the time of Rathayatra. The colorful applique cloth covers the 3 chariot which is waterproof and best handmade thing you will see at the time of Chariot festival (Rathayatra).The design of this handicraft includes water proof material, cotton, thread and also silk material. Pipili has an entry in the 2004 Limca Book of Records, for the world’s largest applique work having 54 Meter (177 feet) long work is filled with images of India’s struggle for Independence.
